PellMon is an open source program made originally for connecting to a scotte/woody pellet burner in a similar way to the PC program stokerkontrol, differing in that it is accessed from a webbrowser so you don't need a monitor connected to the computer and it is very lightweight so it runs well even on a small, cheap computer like the raspberry pi. It is also completely free and comes with source code so it can be modified.
It might be less known that PellMon can also be used with any burner/boiler, not just scotte/woody. PellMon has a 'plugin' system for interfacing to different pellet burners. To monitor a completely generic burner you can use the 'pelletCalc' plugin which only needs a way to monitor the feeder auger revolutions or runtime, and from that PellMon calculates current power level/mode and fuel consumption. The feeder auger revolutions can be monitored for instance with a switch connected to an input pin on the raspberry pi computer, or a onewire sensor input on a pc. Temperatures (and lots of other things like humidity and sun intensity) can be monitored using onewire sensors connected to a usb adapter using the OWFS plugin.
Since PellMon is accessed from a web browser you can configure your router so it is accessible from the internet, and even without that you can receive an email when there is an alarm.
Front page in the web browser:

The web interface adapts to the screen size of the device used, so works equally well on a mobile phone as on a desktop pc.
